![]() | Steven J. Sell President, Western Region Health Plan Steven Sell is president of Health Net, Inc.'s Western Region Health Plan. Since 2009, he has held P&L accountability for the company's $6 billion commercial business, covering 1.3 million members in Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington, as well as for the company's enterprise-wide marketing function. Since 2008, Mr. Sell also has been president of Health Net of California, Health Net's largest subsidiary, which covers more than 2.2 million members in commercial, Medicare and Medicaid programs across the state. In 2013, he added the company's Medicare line of business to his scope of responsibilities. During his tenure in these two roles, Mr. Sell has championed the company's strategic partnerships with key hospital and physician groups in regional communities that serve as the foundation for affordable, high quality, customer-centric products across all lines of business. He also has led the development and expansion of the company's tailored network products, which have fueled the profitable growth of the commercial business segment and represent 35 percent of its membership, as of December 31, 2012. Before leading Health Net of California, Mr. Sell served as president, CEO and chairman of Managed Health Network, Inc. (MHN), Health Net’s behavioral health subsidiary. In this role, he implemented strategies that enhanced its product portfolio and expanded its client base, while also helping to launch its fast-growing Government Services division by combining the company’s behavioral expertise with experience gained from Health Net Federal Services’ TRICARE contract with the Department of Defense. Prior to becoming president of MHN, Mr. Sell served as MHN’s chief strategy and business development officer, accountable for the financial, strategic and operational performance of the company’s commercial, health plan, and labor and trust clients. He also oversaw the sales, marketing, account management, clinical services and operations functions. Earlier in his career, Mr. Sell served as a consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton. He also spent six years with Prudential Financial, Inc. in a variety of strategic and operational roles. Mr. Sell holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from Swarthmore College and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Stanford University.
